{"id":1029,"date":"2023-02-16T11:00:46","date_gmt":"2023-02-16T02:00:46","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/hommamuseum-en.com\/?p=1029"},"modified":"2023-03-01T12:23:11","modified_gmt":"2023-03-01T03:23:11","slug":"tokushido-komonjo-the-tokushido-old-documents","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/hommamuseum-en.com\/?p=1029","title":{"rendered":"\u201cTokushid\u014d Komonjo\u201d (The Tokushid\u014d Old Documents)"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Letter from Date Masamune, addressed to Kurokawa, the head caretaker of the Imperial horses Kurokawa&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">21 December 1585 (Tensh\u014d 13)<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Donated by Sat\u014d Sh\u014dji<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Komonjo, or \u201cold documents,\u201d refers to forms of communication created to express one\u2019s intentions to a particular recipient.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Also known as the \u201cOne-Eyed Dragon of \u014cshu,\u201d Date Masamune was a powerful daimy\u014d in the Tohoku region who went on to found the modern-day city of Sendai. This document is a letter of thanks from Date Masamune (1567\u20131636) to Kurokawa Haruuji for the salted salmon and paper fan presented to him as a New Year\u2019s gift. Masamune expresses his pleasure at the gift, and hopes to be able to meet Haruuji at a later date.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Kurokawa Haruuji (1523\u201399) was a military commander and retainer of the Date clan, related to the Date clan as well as the Mogami and \u014csaki clans in Dewa (present-day Yamagata). When Masamune attacked the \u014csaki clan during the Battle of \u014csaki in 1588, Haruuji sided with the \u014csaki against the Date forces.
