{"id":1037,"date":"2023-02-16T11:10:48","date_gmt":"2023-02-16T02:10:48","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/hommamuseum-en.com\/?p=1037"},"modified":"2023-02-16T11:10:48","modified_gmt":"2023-02-16T02:10:48","slug":"letter-from-tokugawa-ieyasu-addressed-to-a-chamberlain-in-dewa","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/hommamuseum-en.com\/?p=1037","title":{"rendered":"Letter from Tokugawa Ieyasu, addressed to a chamberlain in Dewa"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">4 May (Year unknown)<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Donated by the Homma family<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">This is a letter from the warlord Tokugawa Ieyasu to Mogami Yoshiaki (1564\u20131614), a chamberlain of Dewa Province, expressing his thanks for the seasonally-appropriate gift of a raw silk summer robe (<em>katabira<\/em>) presented on Tango no Sekku, the fifth day of the fifth month which is today known as Childrens\u2019 Day.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">In samurai society, gifts were given during seasonal milestones and celebrations.
