No inscription."},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">By Nishigaki Kanjir\u014d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Early Edo period<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Donated by Homma Norio<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Considered a type of sword mount or guard, a <em>tsuba<\/em> is usually a round (or occasionally squarish) guard positioned at the end of the grip of bladed Japanese weapons.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">A <em>kuy<\/em><em>\u014d<\/em><em>zakura<\/em>, or \u2018nine-way\u2019 cherry blossom, is sometimes used as a family crest: a large cherry blossom in the center, surrounded by eight smaller flowers in the form of a \u2018nine-way\u2019 pattern. <em>Kuy<\/em><em>\u014d<\/em><em> <\/em>(or <em>Navagraha <\/em>in Sanskrit) refers to the nine heavenly bodies and deities that influence human life on Earth. They comprise the five planets visible to the naked eye \u2014 Mars, Mercury, Jupiter, Venus and Saturn \u2014 the sun, the moon, and Rahu and Ketu, the ascending and descending nodes of the Moon. This was carved by Nishigaki Kanshiro I (1613\u20131693), a master craftsperson of the Hosokawa clan in Higo Province (present-day Kumamoto Prefecture).
