He studied at the Taiheiy\u014d School of Fine Arts, where he began to associate with Matsumoto Shunsuke, Hasegawa Toshiyuki, Aimitsu and others. In 1938, he moved to Europe in 1938. In 1943, during the Pacific War, he and Matsumoto Shunsuke, Aimitsu, Itozono Wasabur\u014d, \u014cno Gor\u014d and others formed the the Shinjin Gakai. They engaged in independent, expressive activities despite the rigid limits of the time. Later, in 1947, Sabur\u014d joined the Jiy\u016b Bijutsu. He also held a duo exhibition with Mori Yoshio. From 1964, he continued his work as an independent artist. Averse to explanations, his works appeal strongly to themes of familar everyday life.
