Tsubaki moved to Tokyo in 1914 and left school the following year to study under Kishida Ry\u016bsei. He became friends with Mushanok\u014dji Saneatsu and others, members of the Shirakaba coterie. He participated in founding the Soudosha with Kishida Ry\u016bsei and Kimura Sh\u014dhachi. He created realistic works that were strongly influenced by Kishida Ry\u016bsei, and exhibited at the Soudosha, Tatsumigakai, Nihon Bijutsuin and Nika Exhibitions, as well as others. He became a guest member of the Shunyokai in 1922 but left in 1927. Participated in the founding of the Daichouwakai Exhibition, advocated by Mushanok\u014dji Saneatsu and others. He exhibited at the Kokuga-kai from 1929.
