During his childhood in Iwate Prefecture, he lost his hearing due to illness. He studied at the Taiheiy\u014d Art Association and was selected for the prestigious Nika Exhibition for the first time in 1935. He participated in the founding of the formation of the Shinjin Gakai in 1943, and the Nihon Bijutsukai (Japan Art Assocation) in 1946. In 1947, he became a member of the Jiy\u016b Bijutsu Association. He also contributed \u201cThe Living Artist\u201d to the art magazine Mizue during the chaotic period leading up to the Pacific War. This illustrated his commitment to maintaining the independence of art.
