{"id":2327,"date":"2023-05-25T11:51:21","date_gmt":"2023-05-25T02:51:21","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/hommamuseum-en.com\/?p=2327"},"modified":"2023-06-22T16:51:01","modified_gmt":"2023-06-22T07:51:01","slug":"letter-dated-8th-october-2","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/hommamuseum-en.com\/?p=2327","title":{"rendered":"Letter dated 8th October"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>Fujiwara no Teika&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>1211 (Kenryaku 1)&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Important Cultural Property<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Donated by the Homma family<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>This is a letter written by Fujiwara no Teika (1162\u20131241), an aristocrat and poet active during the late Heian and early Kamakura periods, who left a significant mark on the history of Japanese literature.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>On 4 October 1211, Fujiwara no Teika\u2019s son Tameie (1197\u20131275) attended a ceremony for Nijo Yoshizane\u2019s appointment as minister. Tameie did not observe the dress code for the occasion, which precipitated an inquiry from the Emperor Gotoba. This letter is a reply to this inquiry.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In this reply, Fujiwara no Teika acknowledged Tameie\u2019s misstep, but pointed out that he was merely a 14-year-old child and unable to comply due to a sudden change in the ceremony\u2019s schedule; and indeed, that he himself wished to express his dissatisfaction about the affair.&nbsp;&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>This letter came to the Homma family during the early Showa period via the Sakai family, who ruled over the former Sh\u014dnai Domain.
