He was the child of Ishikawa Zenz\u014d. His real name was Kametar\u014d. His younger brother was the lacquer artisan Ishikawa Kod\u014d. His mother Tsuru, having separated from his father, remarried to Suge Sanehide, who had been <em>Ch\u016br\u014d<\/em> (supporter to the chief retainer) of the former Sh\u014dnai domain. Haizan moved to Tsuruoka alongside his mother. Afterwards, he moved to the capital, T\u014dky\u014d, learning Bird-and-flower painting from T\u014dd\u014d Ry\u014dun and landscape painting from Hattori Hazan. He submitted art to the likes of the Kaiga Ky\u014dshinkai exhibition, and in 1909 published the \u201cKakury\u016b Shogaen,\u201d at Tsuruoka\u2019s current Kanmeid\u014d photo studio, which collected many of the important Japanese paintings passed down in Sh\u014dnai. He also worked on the decorative ceiling and door paintings at In\u014dkadera Temple\u2019s mountain hall, and on the partitioning screens at Honky\u014dji temple.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Ishikawa Haizan Year unknown Donated by Watanabe Riemon Ishikawa Haizan (1868-1941) was born in T\u014dky\u014d.
