{"id":3924,"date":"2024-02-21T20:34:34","date_gmt":"2024-02-21T11:34:34","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/hommamuseum-en.com\/?p=3924"},"modified":"2024-02-21T20:34:34","modified_gmt":"2024-02-21T11:34:34","slug":"language-of-the-common-people","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/hommamuseum-en.com\/?p=3924","title":{"rendered":"Language of the Common People"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Takahashi Deish\u016b<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Bakumatsu-Meiji era (19<sup>th<\/sup> century)<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Donated by Watanabe Riemon<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Takahashi Deish\u016b (1835-1903) was a Sh\u014dgunal vassal of the Bakumatsu era, the final years of the Tokugawa Sh\u014dgunate, and was one of the so-called \u201cThree Sh\u016bs\u201d, the others being Katsu Kaish\u016b and Yamaoka Tessh\u016b, with the latter being the husband of Deish\u016b\u2019s younger sister, who led the way to the bloodless surrender of Edo Castle during the Boshin War. He excelled at spearmanship, and was an instructor at the K\u014dbusho, a military training center that taught both Western and Japanese tactics. In 1868, he served as guard in a command unit serving Tokugawa Yoshinobu, the last sh\u014dgun. Following the disastrous battle of Toba-Fushimi, Deish\u016b advocated submission to the victorious rebel army, endorsing his in-law Yamaoka Tessh\u016b as envoy to the opposing forces. After the Meiji Restoration that followed the war, he did not enter into the new government, and instead moved to Shizuoka.
