{"id":3987,"date":"2024-02-21T21:01:35","date_gmt":"2024-02-21T12:01:35","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/hommamuseum-en.com\/?p=3987"},"modified":"2024-02-21T21:01:35","modified_gmt":"2024-02-21T12:01:35","slug":"personal-tidings-with-poem","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/hommamuseum-en.com\/?p=3987","title":{"rendered":"Personal Tidings with Poem"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Written in the hand of Takuan S\u014dh\u014d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">1629-32<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Donated by Sat\u014d Masaharu<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">This letter was written by the renowned Buddhist priest and 154<sup>th<\/sup> leader of Daitoku-ji Temple, Takuan S\u014dh\u014d (1573-1645), during his banishment in Kaminoyama Domain, Dewa Province (modern Kaminoyama City, Yamagata Prefecture).&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">It is believed that there were many people who, missing Takuan\u2019s virtuous character, sent him letters. Takuan sent this particular letter of personal tidings in thanks for stationary that was delivered to him, with Takuan\u2019s wellbeing in his place of exile having been asked after. While the addressee is unknown, the contents of the letter can be used as a basis for conjecture.
