He counted the Osaka-based literati painter Okada Hank\u014d amongst his children. Originally a rice merchant, Beisanjin was later appointed to Ts\u016b Domain in Ise Province (modern Mie Prefecture), and is also said to have been employed as a government official working in the Osaka domanial warehouses.
