{"id":532,"date":"2022-10-11T10:45:19","date_gmt":"2022-10-11T01:45:19","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/hommamuseum-en.com\/?p=532"},"modified":"2023-06-21T17:07:53","modified_gmt":"2023-06-21T08:07:53","slug":"american-ships","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/hommamuseum-en.com\/?p=532","title":{"rendered":"American Ships"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>Written in the hand of Hokuy\u014d Homma<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>1853<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Tangible Cultural Property, designated by Sakata city<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Donated by the Homma family<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Hokuy\u014d Homma (1822\u201368), also known as Gunbei, was a scholar of Western Studies during the late Edo period, and a student of the famed ukiyo-e artist Hokusai.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>This painting was made on the 10th of July 1853, shortly after Commodore Matthew Perry\u2019s fleet from Washington entered the port of Uraga at the entrance to Edo Bay. The preliminary sketch was done in Uraga, and the painting was completed after returning to Edo.
