{"id":787,"date":"2022-11-30T14:54:57","date_gmt":"2022-11-30T05:54:57","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/hommamuseum-en.com\/?p=787"},"modified":"2022-11-30T14:54:57","modified_gmt":"2022-11-30T05:54:57","slug":"kuroshio-tsutsu-chawan-tea-bowl","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/hommamuseum-en.com\/?p=787","title":{"rendered":"Kuroshio tsutsu chawan tea bowl"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>Ry\u014dny\u016b<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Late Edo period (18th\u201319th century)<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Donated by the Homma family<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>This is a <em>kuroshio <\/em>tea bowl by Ky\u014dto potter Ry\u014dny\u016b (1756\u20131834), a ninth-generation member of the Raku family. &#8220;<em>Kuroshio<\/em>\u201d (lit. \u201cblack salt\u201d) is derived from the use of a jar meant for storing salt as a tea bowl, a practice with its origins in Joseon-period Korea. <em>Tsutsu chawan <\/em>tea bowls are especially useful during winter because the shape helps keep the tea from cooling down too quickly.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Ry\u014dny\u016b was a master craftsman who helped revive the Raku name. Many of his works imitated the style of D\u014dny\u016b, a third-generation member of the Raku family.
