{"id":796,"date":"2022-11-30T15:41:02","date_gmt":"2022-11-30T06:41:02","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/hommamuseum-en.com\/?p=796"},"modified":"2022-11-30T15:41:02","modified_gmt":"2022-11-30T06:41:02","slug":"red-ko-banko-ware-gourd-shaped-tokkuri-flask","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/hommamuseum-en.com\/?p=796","title":{"rendered":"Red Ko-Banko ware gourd-shaped tokkuri flask"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>Mid-Edo period (18th century)<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Donated by the Homma family<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Banko ware originated in the mid-Edo period when R\u014dzan Nunami (1718\u20131777), a wealthy merchant in Kuwana, Ise Province (present-day Mie Prefecture), built a kiln in Obuke Village (in present-day Asahi-ch\u014d, Mie-gun) and began making pottery using techniques inspired by Ky\u014dto ware potters. After R\u014dzan\u2019s death, Banko ware production ceased for a time, but was revived in 1832 by Kuwana potter Y\u016bsetsu Mori (1808\u20131882). By the end of the Edo period, Banko ware was being produced throughout Ise Province.
