Letter from Mogami Yoshiaki, addressed to Kaga Yosuke
6 February, circa 1596~1615
Donated by the Homma family
This letter from Mogami Yoshiaki (1546–1614) to Kaga Yosuke, a wealthy merchant in Sakata, expresses his joy at the arrival of the timber shipment from Noshiro (in present-day Akita Prefecture). We can infer from the text that the Mogami clan ordered timber for ship-building from Noshiro, while “Iyo” and “Bingo” mentioned towards the end are thought to refer to vassals of the Mogami clan.
