Born in Toyama Prefecture, Kinoshita Shin (1947–) studied under the sculptor Otaki Naohira, and set his sights on a career in the arts. In 1963, his work was selected for exhibition at the Jiyū Bijutsu Art Exhibition. Around this time, he became friends with Aso Saburō, and through Aso also met Sunouchi Tōru. In 1967, he held his first solo exhibition at the Muramatsu Gallery in Tokyo. Since then, he has held solo shows in various exhibitions. After visiting New York, he dedicated himself to a pursuit of realism, through relentlessly detailed pencil drawings. His paintings have an overwhelmingly realistic presence, with the exceptional depiction of each wrinkle on his subjects.
