Miyamoto Saburō
1905-1974
Born in Komatsu City, Ishikawa Prefecture. Studied under influential artists like Fujishima Takeji and Yasui Sōtarō. He was selected to exhibit in the prestigious Nika Exhibition in 1927. From then, he diligently continued to create works in Japan and Europe as well as other countries. Miyamoto’s abilities were highly regarded and he was awarded the Japan Art Academy Prize in 1943. After the war, he became the director of Nika Art Association and the Japanese Artists Association, Inc. (JAA). He also contributed to the development of the art world by serving as a university professor. In his early years, he produced realistic paintings with strong composition and brushwork, while after the war he painted nudes of sensual beauty and fantastic abstract paintings.
