Yamaguchi Kaoru

1907-1968

Born in Gunma Prefecture. He was selected to for exhibitions such as the Teiten (Imperial Art Exhibition) and the Kokuten exhibition while attending the Tokyo School of Fine Arts. In 1930, he traveled to Europe. Upon his return in 1934, he created the New Age Painting Exhibition with Murai Masanari and others, as well as the Jiyū Bijutsu Kyokai (Free Artist Association) in 1937. In 1950, he also formed the Modern Art Association. He received the Minister of Education Award for Fine Arts in 1960. He also worked as a professor at the Tokyo University of the Arts.

With his prowess in literature, he visually expresses the world of poetry. His work is characterized by his technique of delicate expression while additionally incorporating lyricism in his composition. In his later years, he transcends that by painting worlds of tranquility.
