Born in Shizuoka Prefecture. Yamamichi was an elementary school teacher in Manchuria and Dalian. He was self-taught in painting and founded the Tokusa-kai artist group. After moving back to Japan, he started the Goka-kai in Dalian in 1932 and brought and presented surrealist works from Japan. While teaching, he became a member of the Association of Independent Artists and developed a diverse range of expression, from abstract art to profound landscapes and paintings that demonstrate superb drawing skill. He held solo exhibitions in Manchuria and the United States of America.
