Nakagawa Hachirō
1877-1922
Born in Ehime Prefecture. Nakagawa studied western-style painting in Osaka and Tokyo. He exhibited his work at the 10th anniversary exhibition of the Meiji Fine Arts Society, which was purchased by the Imperial Household. After touring the USA and Europe, he formed the Taiheiyō painting society with Yoshida Hiroshi and others in 1902. In addition to oil paintings, he also specialized in watercolors using techniques reminiscent of traditional ink paintings. He traveled around the country sketching and painting, leaving behind landscape paintings of Sakata.
