Ninetieth Celebration, a waka

Gyōjo Hosshinnō (Prince Gyōjo) of Myōhoin Temple and others

1741 (Kanpō 1)

Donated by the Homma family

This waka poem was composed in 1203 at the 90th birthday celebration of Fujiwara no Toshinari (1114–1204), the father of Fujiwara no Teika. Transcriptions of this poem were made in 1741 by a dozen aristocrats, including Prince Gyōjo of Myōhoin Temple, Daigo Fuyuhiro, and Imadegawa Nobusue.

On 2 October 1741, Sakai Tadayori, the fifth feudal lord of the Shōnai Domain, received this poem from the imperial palace. In July 1916, the Sakai presented this piece to the Homma family, together with a hanging scroll and dagger, after they attended the ceremony for the restoration of the Sakai family gravesite.
