Palace Doll     Child Daikokuten

Kyōwa era (1801–1804) Donated by Saitō Shōji

A fine example of doll-making craftsmanship, this plump palace doll depicts a child as Daikokuten, a syncretic Japanese deity of fortune and wealth and one of the Seven Deities of Good Fortune. Its expression is calm and peaceful, and the doll may originally have worn a hood.
