Kyōhō Dolls

Late Edo period (1603–1868) Donated by Satō Seiji

Popular during the Kyōhō era (1716–1735), a time of economic prosperity, this style of hina doll is characterized by their large size and lavish costumes. Here, both dolls are dressed in gorgeous gold brocade and safflower-dyed robes. The male doll is 49.8cm tall, while the female doll is 41.8cm tall. Notable here are their delicate fingers and finely carved faces.
