Written by Kanze Nobumitsu (d. 1516), Momijigari (Hunting Autumn Leaves) is a Noh play recounting the tale of the warrior Taira no Koremori battling a fire-breathing she-demon during an autumn leaf-viewing party on Mount Togakushi. Depicting Taira no Koremori, the doll’s exaggerated stance evokes the drama of the play. In the play, he eventually defeats the demon with the legendary sword Kogarasumaru.
