Ishii Yaichirō (1898-1972) was born in Ippongi Fukūra, Akumi District (modern Ippongi Fukūra Aza, Yuza Town). Moving to Tōkyō, he studied under Fujishima Takeji at the Kawabata School of Painting. Afterwards, he studied at the Maeda Kanji Research Center and the Taiheiyō Art Association Research Institute, learning under Nakagawa Kazumasa and Yoshida Hiroshi. From the 1930s, his work was featured widely by the likes of the Association of 1930 Exhibit and the Shun-yō-kai, and in 1937 he opened his own private gallery. Post-war, He was active as a member of the Taiheiyō Art Association Research Institute, opening many private exhibitions throughout Tōkyō.
