Satō Shōsuke

Satō Shōsuke (1920-2005) was born in Sakata City, Yamagata Prefecture. He studied under Minami Kunzō and Usa Saburō at the Tōkyō School of Fine Arts. Graduating in 1941, he was then called up to serve during the war. After demobilization, he became an assistant teacher at the Yamagata Shihan School, a teacher training institution of Yamagata University’s education department.
He retired from the education department of Yamagata University in 1951, moving to Tōkyō. In 1961, he established the Sōkikai Association, exhibiting art each year. He also hosted numerous solo exhibitions.
