Kimura Gisaburō (1914-1978) was born in Izumimachi in the town of Tsuruoka (modern Izumizachi, Tsuruoka City). His older brother was the Japanese painter Kawamura Chiho. While studying at Yamagata Prefecture Tsuruoka Middle School (current Tsuruoka Minami High School), he learned art from Jinushi Teisuke. He then entered the Tōkyō School of Fine Arts (modern Tōkyō University of the Arts). From 1947, he worked as a fine arts teacher at various middle schools across Haguro and Tsuruoka. While working, he continued to press for opportunities to paint, with submitted works selected for the Jiyu Bijutsu exhibition. From 1965, his submitted work was selected for the Shun-yō-kai. He was then nominated to be a member of that association. He also contributed to the development as a member of the Hakuōsha.
