Hori Rinya

Hori Rinya (1935-2010) was born in the town of Yawata, Akumi District (modern Sakata City). After graduating from Sakata Higashi High School, he moved to the capital of Tōkyō in 1957, studying at the Aoyama Painting Research Center. Continuing to do active material research in Europe, mainly in France and Spain, he put on numerous private exhibitions. He was later selected for the 1981 Nichiyō-kai Exhibition, and went on to receive awards at the Shinyōgakai Exhibition and Ueno Royal Museum Grand Prize Exhibition. In 1989, he won the International Arts Culture Prize.
