Uesugi Yōzan (1751-1822) was the ninth lord of Yonezawa Domain, known as a wise ruler for his successful implementation of reforms during a time of economic woe for his domain.
This document is a copy of “Farewell to a Friend on a Spring Night”, a poem in eight lines by the Tang-era Chinese poet Chen Zi’ang (661-702), as produced by Yōzan.
