Designated Cultural Property of Sakata City

By Igarashi Unrei

Bunkyu period (1861–64)

Donated by Satō Saburō

Created by Igarashi Unrei of Honmachi between 1861–64 as sightseeing guides, The Ten Views of Sakata are fine representations of Sakata’s landscapes and famous landmarks. The prints are accompanied by haiku, including those by poets like Matsuo Bashō, Tokoyoda Chōsui, Matsuo Otsuji and others. Highly valuable as historical artefacts of the Bakumatsu era, the original woodblocks survive to this day, and are currently housed in the museum’s collection.
