Late Edo period, 19th century
Donated by Yushiba Muneo Miyazawa Buetsu (1783-1843) was a haiku poet active during the late Edo period. Born and registered as Miyazawa Tamiya in Shinano Province (present-day Nagano Prefecture), he became a student under Tokoyoda Chōsui. After Chōsui’s death, he visited Sakata, organising the belongings and materials left behind. In 1819, he published a commemorative collection of his poems, Yoru no Hashira (‘Pillar of the Night’), on behalf of the Sakata and Mogami poetry communities.
