Sōshin Ōmori (1902–2004) was the eighth headmaster of the Enshū tea ceremony school. He was an assistant professor at the Kyōto Institute of Technology. After retiring, he devoted himself to tea ceremony and took the name Sōshin Gyokusenan.

This piece is based on a five-word poem and Zen verse by Wang Ji, a Chinese poet of the Liang dynasty (502–557).

Writing: 鳥啼いて山更に幽なり

Reading: Tori naite yama sara ni shizukanari

Meaning: A bird cries, the silence of the mountains deepens
