This woodblock print depicts the scenery of Matsushima in Miyagi Prefecture, today considered one of Japan’s three most scenic spots. It was designed by Utagawa Hiroshige I (1797–1858), renowned as the artist behind the series Fifty-three Stations of the Tōkaidō and One Hundred Famous Views of Edo.
