On the right hand, carrying a basket carrying fish, is one of the Thirty-three Kannon (Buddhist deities of compassion), Gyoran Kannon. On the right is a spring scene featuring a tree peony and a mandarin duck, a Japanese plum and a kingfisher, and lotus flower grass, and on the left is painted a wintery scene featuring a pine, bamboo, a camellia, and birds believed to be a magpie and a wagtail. Gyoran Kannon’s hair, expression, limbs, and clothing are all painted with expert ability, and the clean and refined representation of her visage allow this piece to be called a masterpiece amongst Gyoran Kannon portrayals.
