Jinushi Teisuke

Jinushi Teisuke (1889-1975) was born in Mogamicho, Tsuruoka Town (modern Kamihatamachi, Tsuruoka City). After working as teaching staff at an elementary school, he went on to pass the art section of the Ministry of Education, Science, and Culture Proficiency Test for Elementary and Secondary School Teachers. He was then employed as a licensed teacher at schools in Akita and Yamaguchi prefectures. In 1925 he became the arts teacher at Yamagata Prefectural Tsuruoka Middle School. Becoming the chairman of the fine arts group “Hakuōsha,” he endeavored to promote the arts. Following retirement, he moved to Kanagawa Prefecture, where he focused on producing art. His held person exhibitions centered in the Tōkyō area. He painted many realism-focused still life artworks with stone and paper motifs.
