Kobayashi Isamu (1904-1981), known by the sobriquet Tōsei, was not only a publisher (with Iwanami Shoten), but also someone who helped foster literary and artistic talent.

Drawn to literature from a young age, he went on to publish numerous books during his lifetime. He left behind an excellent record as a man of letters. Additionally, he devoted himself to painting, and is considered an artist worthy of the pedigree of the great modern Southern School.
