Red Raku mizusashi water jar

Tannyū

Late Edo period (19th century)

Donated by the Homma family

This red Raku mizusashi water jar is by Kyōto potter Tannyū (1795–1854), a tenth-generation member of the Raku family. This water jar has a persimmon-like austerity with richness of color variegated over the entire piece—elements characteristic of red Raku ware by Tannyū.
