Nakayukawa Clay Dolls

Place of origin: Aizu-Wakamatsu City, Fukushima Prefecture

These dolls were first made in 1982 by Aoyagi Morihiko in the Nakayukawa area of present-day Aizu-Wakamatsu in Fukushima prefecture. They are today one of the most well-known clay dolls in the prefecture, and are popular souvenirs from Higashiyama Onsen, a hot spring resort located in the outskirts of the city.
