Chrysanthemum flower dish with namako glaze

Late Ming to Qing dynasty (17th–18th century)

Donated by the Homma family

This is a dish with namako glaze, fired in the Yixing kiln in Jiangsu Province, China. Namako glazing involves applying two coats of a translucent violet-indigo glaze, creating a mottled or streaked pattern due to the flow of the glaze. Namako glaze is thought to have originated in the Song dynasty sometime during the eleventh or twelfth century at the kilns producing Jun ware.
