Tenryū-ji celadon censer with single-layered mouth

Yuan to Ming dynasty (14th–15th century)

Donated by the Homma family

This is a Tenryū-ji celadon censer fired at the Longquan kilns in Zhejiang Province, China. Tenryū-ji celadon was imported to Japan in large quantities from the Kamakura to Muromachi periods, and has a darker blue-green color than the bright blue celadon wares made during the Southern Song dynasty.
